The Last Bookstore

Bookaholic: The bookstore holds regular literary and musical events, contributing to the vibrancy of the community. It also houses a vinyl LP shop and a graphic novel shop, and shares a space with the Spring Arts Collective, which hosts changing exhibitions of local contemporary artists in the adjoining galleries. For those who venture upstairs into what is called the ‘Labyrinth Above the Last Bookstore’, over 100,000 books await in the bookshop’s newest mezzanine space, all priced at $1 each.

City Lights

Bookaholic: Founded in 1953 by poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Peter D. Martin, City Lights is not only one of the nation’s greatest independent bookshops, but it also has a literary history equalled by few others.

Bookaholic: De Slegte in Rotterdam has an excellent selection of second-hand books in their cosy bookstore, along with new releases, of course. They’re also really engaged with the book world, and often have signings and lectures by authors and poets in their store.

Bookaholic: Athenaeum store is located in the centre of Amsterdam, and it’s a beautiful bookstore that is unique because it also sells an excellent collection of magazines and journals.

Bookaholic: Oxford Owl is an award-winning website from Oxford University Press, created to support children’s learning both at home and at school. After registering (which is free), you gain free access to many of Oxford’s ebooks for free, along with other guides and games to help children develop their reading skills.

Bookaholic: Tumble Book Library provides support to students with a variety of curriculum-based exercises. This service is ideal for Special Education and ESL teachers and students. One of the unique aspects of this site is they provide animations of some children’s picture books, as well as paired audio/ebook sets so you can read and listen along.
